The key to successful business is the effective management of risk!
Finding out where your most significant risks are needs a holistic approach that looks at all aspects of your business. If you haven't been involved in business risk management before, this can seem daunting - where do you start?
Recognising the importance of managing safety and health risks alongside all other business risks, the IOSH Technical Affairs Department has adapted a risk management toolkit specifically designed for small firms.
Originally developed and successfully used in Finland, the appeal of this toolkit is that it helps small firms (and possibly larger ones) to tackle business risk management in a user-friendly way, using tools such as work cards, checklists, info cards and workbooks.
You choose where you start - if you want to do things thoroughly, the toolkit provides a step-by-step approach, helping you develop your own 'complete system'.
If however, you need to get started quickly, you can opt for a 'partial system' and build on it later.
Finally, if you have urgent problems to deal with, you can take the 'direct route' (initially) and use risk-specific info and work cards, returning for the 'complete' or 'partial' systems when time allows.
The toolkit is freely downloadable below and you will also find details of IOSH training providers who can help you to get started using the toolkit. We are keen to receive feedback from users of the toolkit. Please email your comments to richard.jones@iosh.co.uk
