Construction
The
construction sector in Wales has enjoyed a boom in
recent years.
Town and city regeneration projects,
and the building of structures such as the Millennium Stadium, have
contributed to this.
Construction accounts for 93,000 jobs
in Wales, employed by around 10,000 businesses - 90% of them being
small enterprises with fewer than 10 staff.
Businesses range from large civil
engineering operations to small specialist enterprises. Many big
name contractors, such as Costain, Redrow and Westbury have a
permanent base in Wales.
Now, in challenging times, the Welsh Assembly
Government is supporting the sector by offering business
information and advice through its Construct Wales
programme and by bringing forward major public-sector projects.
