Wales has a
buoyant and growing financial services sector. The industry
is highlighted in the Welsh Assembly Government's economic
development strategy, ‘Wales A Vibrant Economy’ as a key
growth sector.
Banks and building societies dominate the
sector in Wales, whilst insurance and pension companies represent
an important sub-sector.
The remainder of the workforce includes
insurance brokers, independent financial advisors, fund managers,
asset managers, stockbrokers, actuaries, loss adjustors, risk
managers, and wealth managers.
Since the early 1990s many UK and global
financial services companies have set up and expanded in Wales.
In addition, home-grown companies such as
Admiral Insurance and the Principality Building Society have
expanded dramatically over recent years.
