There
are over 13,000 retail enterprises in Wales employing around
134,000 people. Some of these businesses have international
markets, whilst many more perform a vital service to their local
communities.
The Welsh Assembly Government recognises the
importance of the retail sector to the economy of Wales and offers
a range of assistance to retail businesses looking to start-up,
develop and grow.
Support might include:
- specialist advice on starting-up and growing your
business;
- joint marketing and networking activities; and
- financial assistance to eligible projects.

The Assembly Government also funds a rate
relief scheme for small businesses. Relief will normally be applied
automatically by local authorities to non domestic rate bills, and
